The Devizes white horse Ordnance Survey grid reference: SU 016 641
The new white horse Devizes This is the newest of the Wiltshire white horses. Designed by Peter Greed, it was cut by over two hundred local people in 1999 to mark the millennium. It is located on Roundway Hill just to the north of Devizes town and overlooks the village of Roundway.
In 1954 students researched the old white horse Devizes, and one of them, Peter Greed then drew up plans for re-making it. Nothing then came of that at the time but in 1998, Sarah Padwick who had just moved to Devizes wrote to a local paper suggesting that a Devizes hill figure should be cut on the Roundway Down in order to celebrate the coming millennium. Chris Combe, a local farmer then offered land on Roundway Hill for the project, the Crown Estates then gave their approval for the land to be used.
